September "Reflection"

Support my brother Aldo in Racing to Save Lives Against Leukemia & Lymphoma

My name is Aldo V. Ursino. My fondest childhood memories always included the presence of two of the most wonderful people in the world, they were my maternal grandparents. Growing up I was especially blessed to be able to share my home with them also.

Frank and Nina Ursino were exceptionally generous, caring, and for me two of the most loving people on the whole planet. They continued to be role models and caregivers to me and my sisters and I have to say I don’t know how they managed to keep their sanity during our most rebellious teenage years. It must of been by Grace from above!

In January of 1995 I lost my wonderful grandmother to Leukemia. I remember shortly before that I had left a beautiful woman in good health to go into the Army National Guard only to return six months later to a tired, and sickly woman in need of constant care and attention. Her sickness though may of attacked her body , but not her soul. The love that she had for us while in tip top health was ever present throughout her personal interior struggle.

My mother together with her siblings was relentless in giving her around the clock care and supervision. They all took turns to be sure all her demands were met, lavishing her with all the attention she deserved. She fought her battle as she did everything else, with courage, fortitude, and most importantly faith.

She fought until the very end, and then on January 25, 1995 she said her last goodbye, until we meet again, on the other side.

Two years after her earthly death, my loving grandfather also died of cancer. In those two years he would utter the words, “I want to be with your grandmother”, and that day came in November of 1997.

This chapter in the lives of the “Ursinos” fueled a passion for knowledge which led my sister Sonia to become a physician. She was touched by the suffering humans must undergo during such illnesses and wanted to be of service to the sick. She now practices medicine in the Boston area.

I am running in order to show support for this organization and also to show my young son Alex Q. that one must be pro-active to bring about goodness and change. I ask you to contribute to this noble cause and thank you in advance for your consideration.
